Each year, WardsAuto showcases the best new models and technological innovations. This year, the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500’s available 6.2-liter V8 engine with Dynamic Fuel Management earned a spot on the Wards 10 Best Engines list.
Dynamic Fuel Management
Dynamic Fuel Management is the next generation of Chevrolet’s fuel-saving engine technology. While its predecessor, Active Fuel Management, switched between eight and four cylinders, DFM has 17 cylinder patterns to maximize fuel efficiency. Depending on power needs, it can even power the truck on just two cylinders.
Progression Of Technology
“Chevrolet first introduced its Active Fuel Management cylinder deactivation system in 2005, and Dynamic Fuel Management is a natural progression of the technology,” said Jordan Lee, Small Block chief engineer for GM. “Dynamic Fuel Management enables only the cylinders needed to deliver the power you want, seamlessly delivering the best balance of power and fuel economy.”
6.2-Liter V8 Engine
The 6.2-liter V8 is rated at 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque and comes paired with a Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission. It is the largest and most powerful gasoline V8 in the full-size pickup segment.
Along with its impressive engine lineup, the redesigned Silverado boasts a longer wheelbase and greater overall length, giving it more passenger space and cargo volume.
