The 2021 Chevrolet Traverse impresses and scores big with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This midsize three-row SUV was recently awarded with a 2021 Top Safety Pick rating. The Traverse qualifies for the award when equipped with LED projector headlights available on both the Premier and High Country trims.
IIHS Top Safety Pick Award
To qualify for a Top Safety Pick award, vehicles must achieve a “good” rating in the IIHS’s six crashworthiness tests, which is the highest available rating within that testing set. These tests include testing for the driver-side small overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. Award winners must also have an available front crash prevention system that earns an “advanced” or “superior rating in testing. The headlight packages must undergo similar tests.
The IIHS also tested the Chevy Traverse’s two automatic emergency braking systems — one standard and the other “enhanced,” each with Front Pedestrian Braking. The former earned a “superior” rating in the vehicle-to-pedestrian test and the latter earned an “advanced” rating. In the vehicle-to-vehicle test, both system options earned “superior” rankings.
Additional Safety Features
On top of its IIHS-approved protections, the Traverse also features available Rear Cross Traffic Alert to assist drivers as they back out of parking lots or driveways. Additionally, the Traverse offers Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and Side Blind Zone Alert to help drivers stay in control.
